Horticultural lighting (LEDs)

Home | Horticultural lighting (LEDs)

Introduction

Horticultural lighting (LEDs) enables an unique method of growing fruits, vegetables, flowers or other agricultural species in a controlled environment in urban regions. Behavior of plants towards light is different than that of human beings. Plants absorb light & need photons for photosynthesis. The intensity & ratio of light wavelengths impact how fast plants develop and yield crops. The most important factor in horticulture LED is photosynthetically active radiation (PAR), which is expressed in Photosynthetic Photon Flux Density (PPFD). More PPFD means more photons & hence more efficient photosynthesis. Standard LED lights only emit Illuination, however horticulture LEDs emit a wider range of blue & red light that supports vegetative growth & flowering. Researchers have found that blue & red light is best for the photosynthetic process.
